Normandy France home of Mont saint Michel, D Day invasion and Bayeux Tapestry
Eu
The opulent red brick chateau and gardens, built on the remains of a much older building, where William the conqueror wed Matilda, was the summer palace of Louis Philippe. Pedestrian streets cluster around the high centre of town, with the Eu’s gothic Notre-Dame et St-Laurent church, strangely dedicated to St Lawrence O’Toole, an Archbishop of Dublin who died in the town , en route to negotiate with King Henry II in 1181. Effigies of the archbishop, along with member of the Artois family lay the bright crypt beneath. Return to Seine-Maritime page
