The circular donjon of the Tour Grise was built by Philippe Auguste in 1204 AD after the town was taken from the English. The flamboyant spire of the Eglise de la Madeleine stands proudly over the Market square, its neighbours a fascinating mix of medieval timbered and fine stone houses and alley ways.
