Normandy France home of Mont saint Michel, D Day invasion and Bayeux Tapestry
St-Vaast-La-Hougue
To the end of the quays is a simple stone chapel dedicated to mariners with wonderful views over the bay and fort de la Houge along the southern causeway. It was from this harbour that Edward III debarked from England on his way to Crecy. Dominating the sea view is the Ile de Tatihou, with Vauban’s graceful fortification, now a bird sanctuary which can be reached by amphibious craft from the mainland.Return to previous page
