Normandy France home of Mont saint Michel, D Day invasion and Bayeux Tapestry

Mont Saint Michel

Over the proceeding years new buildings were added, and the town of Mont-Saint Michel grew up underneath the towering edifice of the monastery, clinging precariously to the steep craggy sides. Massive walls and buttresses encompass the Mont and offer protection from the outside world and must have been a welcome sight to the many weary pilgrims who travelled from across Europe over the centuries. Today the main street is lined with shops, hotels and restaurants, each with its own spectacular vista of the bay.
