Normandy France home of Mont saint Michel, D Day invasion and Bayeux Tapestry.
Cherbourg
A lively town, with colourful markets and pedestrian shopping areas, abundant restaurants and hotels. Cherbourg has an architectural oddity in the form of its Italianate 19th century casino, which wouldn’t look out of place in the milder climes of Monaco. Overlooking the city is the stern Roule Fort containing the Musee de la Liberation, commemorating Cherbourg’s part in the war years. Situated within the glamorous art deco trans-Atlantic liner terminal is the la Cite de la Mer museum, dedicated to undersea world. Set within the tropical gardens below towering cliffs, is the eclectic collection that is the Musee d’Ethnographie. This museum illustrates the cultures and societies from around the globe, including the life of the Inuit. Return to previous page
