A. Pont-Audemer – Normandy

pont-audemer-pdPont-Audemer is the ancient tanning capital of France. Situated between two branches of the Risle River, and crossed with canals and foot bridges it is a town where the calming sound of running water is forever in the background.

B. Lyons-la-Foret – Normandy

C. Gisors -Normandy

gisors-chateau-pdRising above the seemingly endless flatlands of the regions most easterly border, is the capital of the Normandie-Vexin, Gisors. From behind the towns main street are the remains of King Henry II of England’s 12th Century fortress, its slender donjon, moss laden walls and filled in ditch where the towns people now play boules. D. Vernon – Normandy

vernon-public-domainOn the banks of the Seine, Vernon is a bustling market town with a medieval heart. King Philippe Auguste constructed the huge circular donjon that was part of the towns defences, whilst its streets are alive with ancient timbers and stone. On the stump of the former medieval bridge a timber house clings to its stone blocks, whilst watching the scene is the miniature Chateau des Tourelles. Rad more on Vernon of return to mapclick here

E. Evreux – Normandy

F. Conches-en-Ouche – Normandy

Surrounded by forest, Conches-en-Ouche sharply rises above the River Rouloir on a narrow rocky spur. Nestling on the highest point, in the midst of some medieval houses is Eglise of Ste-Foy containing fine renaissance stained glass windows. Read more on Conches-en-Ouche or return to mapclick here


G. Broglie – Normandy

H. Bernay – Normandy
