During world war two the chateau was severely damaged and great ingenuity and expense have been lavished on its repair, sometimes causing much controversy. The whole town of Falaise was devastated in the climactic Battle of Normandy in the struggle to close the “Falaise Gap” in August 1944.Return to Calvados page
